All that said, sounds like you will most likely get something that works for a homelab that doesn't care about upgrading to newer versions of ESXi (for example, if vulnerabilities are found and patched, you will have no way to secure yourself), and the chances of VMWare discovering what was done with these keys and revoking them is very low, though I confess I don't really know what kind of anti-piracy programs VMWare specifically runs. The bottom line is don't expect anything, it's a crapshoot.
